What is Nuclear Medicine?

Nuclear Medicine is the field of medicine in which radiopharmaceutical agents are used for the diagnosis, management, treatment and prevention of different diseases. These radiopharmaceutical agents are given by oral or intravenous administration to evaluate function and structure of different organs. In Nuclear Medicine we are able to detect certain diseases earlier than any other diagnostic modality. The radioactive material will emit a gamma ray which will be detected by a special Gamma camera and will provide the structure and function of the organ of interest. Nuclear Medicine studies are non invasive, safe with extremely low incidence of side effects. We are able to study different organs as brain, thyroid, stomach, gastrointestinal tract, liver, spleen, kidneys, heart, parathyroid gland, skeletal system and tumors.

Our nuclear medicine studies are interpreted by completely qualified nuclear medicine physicians with internal medicine background.

Our nuclear medicine physician is graduated from University programs in the United States - University of Connecticut, John Dempsey Health Center. Our nuclear medicine physician is Ricardo E. Santiago.
