Gastric Emptying

• Indications:

1. Determination of delay gastric emptying with quantitation of gastric emptying rate.

2. Evaluation of altered function. Ex. gastroparesis, scleroderma, amyloidosis, or anorexia nervosa.

3. Evaluation of nauseas, vomiting, and early satiety.

4. Evaluation of weight loss.

• Patient Preparation:

1. Ensure patient to be NPO 4-12 hours before examination.

2. Physician to discontinue sedatives 12 hous before.
