Bone Scan

• Indications:

1. Detection of primary and staging metastatic disease.

2. Evaluation of bone pain, trauma, occult fracture, metabolic bone disease, osteoporosis, and other osteopathies.

3. Detection and evaluation of Paget Disease of the bone.

4. Detection and evaluation of arthritis and joint disease.

5. Evaluation of response to chemotherapy, radiotherapy, antibiotic therapy, and other treatment.

• Patient Preparation:

1. Instruct patient to drink lots of fluids and urinate often before imaging.

2. Instruct patient to return in 2-4 hours after injecting radioactive material.
